Finally I’ve found a full proof method for solid weight painting in Maya, in looking around for rigs to use for the giant in the forest, I decided upon another Mixamo rig and spent a fair few hours getting it ready for animating; rigging and weight painting.  As I came to use it this evening, being on the last run of animating the characters, the mesh was deforming all over the place.

Some searching around a few tips and procedures has borne results; I’ve finished the main animating now and just need to sort out the butterfly, then I can start to work through more of the compositing, which I’m really excited about.
